Before speaking about your solo albums and the band that you are in, I’d like to tell me when your passion for music arose.
My passion for music was born the day I was born, probably, but it only showed up when at 19, with 8 year acting school on my back, I was invited to sing at the Italian TV, Raiuno. Love at first sight! Since then I cannot live without the thrill I have on stage: it’s basically my life.

Last ear you have released an EP, a solo project, under the name of ”Native Spirit”, what can you tell me about the theme of it and what response have you gotten from it from the fans and media?
Well, ’Native Spirit’ represents the bond with your roots and the return to the simple things in life such as enjoying the woods, the wild nature and feeling your spirit animal in you. All of my songs have a very deep bond to the natural elements. The response was incredible considering my label Maquette Records already reprinted the copies! The fans liked it very much, according to what the write on my fb page and they help me a lot sharing pictures or personal thoughts about their favourite songs. A large number of websites, including Mister Folk and Femme Metal made a review of Native Spirit and the ratings are way better than I thought. I could say I’m satisfied but I will never be!

To not be wrong, you have another solo album, right?
Correct, I produced and arranged my first solo album “My World Musicusic” which was completely acoustic, together with my friend and guitarist Gabriele Brisinello. Maybe one day I’ll work on a more “rock” arrangement.

You have collaborated and released an album with Cantus Lunaris aswell and you have been active this band in the past, especially in Germany…
Yes I have and thanks to them I performed in a large number of prestigious venues such as the Wave gotik treffen in 2013 and Semper memento historia in 2014. We also recorded the album “Fabula antiqua” together and it was a great experience, but we parted way and I wish them well.

Hi Masaki, how are you?
I’m doing great! Thanks for asking.

Murashita is your solo project, when were you founded it?
I have started this project immediately after my last band was disbanded in May, 2014.
The debut single, Retribution was released in January, 2015.

This year you have released this year the new album, ”Inescapable Damnation”. Tell me about it.
This is a record that I’ve wanted to do for last few years that features different musicians for different songs and have a good time. The title track, Inescapable Damnation features bassist David Ellefson (Megadeth) and drummer Kevin Talley (Suffocation). My good friend Rodney McGlothlin (Voice of Dissent) and Kelly Conlon (Death, Monstrosity) played bass on other songs. It was a pleasure and honor having them on this record and I definitely had a lot of fun and learned many things from them. You can definitely hear I took Hemoptysis sound into its next incarnation.

Interview: Kirayel

Hello Kirayel, how things are going?
Hi Carla! Really great!

Tell me about you, when did your passion for music start?
I was very young, about 3 years old maybe. My mother saw me dancing to music and sing all the time, so she enrolled me in a children’s choir first and then, at the age of 6, in a piano course. Then the passion has grown little by little untill I understood that it was my way. I’ve always felt music in me, as something natural I was born with.

This year you have released the album ”Diary Of Spaces And Skies”. Tell me about it.
Yes and  I’m really proud of it! It’s a little, intense visual and emotional Diary of my life, of the people I met, of the places I saw and all the things I’m still bringing with me in my heart and in my eyes. The title is taken from my photo album; in my mind the music flows just as you live and feel all the picture of your precious moments. Beyond the intimate and intense music, it has a specialfeature, it has been recorded with double binaural technique, this means that two particular and sophisticated head shaped microphones , called for this reason ‘BIG HEADS’ (Ku100 Neumann) have been used , to record in stereo  (because every ‘head’ has two microphones in the ear). They can catch the sounds from the ambient and environment the way they are, so  you can hear the sounds in the space! It’s a 3D music experience!!! All the things you can hear are just real, nothing is added in post-production, no effects, no voice tuner, just piano and voices with the natural reverb of the ambient. Other artists enjoyed Binaural (Tom Yorke, Pearl Jam, Jolly etc). This is the first Ep recorded with the two heads.

Did you receive good reviews?
Yes, really great reviews!! I’m so glad that my voice , my songs  and all the acoustic experimentation are all together so appreciated.

You had an opening show for Mick Moss of Antimatter, how was it?
Ooh!! So great!! I really enjoyed that show! It was really exciting playing my intimate songs with just piano and voice in front of an audience and it was a great experience meeting and playing with Mick Moss! I really love his voice and style!

Are there more shows confirmed?
Soon there will be news!

Beside your solo project, you are the new vocalist of The Way Of Purity…
Yeah, and I’m really glad ! In The Way of Purity I can express what I think about Nature, Human wickedness, hypochrisy and for me, as a vegan, this is really important!

Do you have a message for the people who enjoy your music?
In my music I always put everything I have, every part of my life, strength and weaknesses, and above all my heart. Appreciating my music means sharing my emotions and my world…it means a lot for me and  I want to thank all those people who did and who will do.

Thank you Kirayel, all the best!
You too Carla! You’re always welcome!

IRON MAIDEN Bassist Discusses BRITISH LION Project In New Video Interview

Portugal’s CheckSound conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris prior to his new solo/side project BRITISH LION‘s sold-out charity show on February 20 at the Moto Clube de Faro’s new 600-capacity clubhouse. You can now watch the chat below.

BRITISH LION is out on the road this month, visiting fourteen countries and twenty-four cities across Europe. For the first time ever, and as a major surprise to many, MAIDEN‘s bass player, founding member and leader is taking temporary leave from his MAIDEN activities and heading out on a full European club tour.

Regarding the BRITISH LION tour, Steve previously said: “I love touring and live shows and I’m very excited about touring with BRITISH LION. It’s fantastic to get out there and once again experience the sheer vibrancy of small clubs with the fans right up front and in your face. I think the fans will enjoy that too. It’s exciting, going back to the roots, and it’s going to be fantastic. We are taking this to clubs all round Europe — a full club tour, with club shows at club prices, hot, sweaty and loud. We have no idea how many people will turn out to see us, as it’s obviously very recent and very new, so we have kept the venues small with tickets priced accordingly as low as we reasonably could.

“I’ve known all the guys in the band for ages and, besides being great musicians, they are also good friends, which is lucky because this has been an ongoing project for many years! They’ve had to be very patient with me as, of course, I’m so involved with MAIDEN I don’t really get a lot of free time to work on other stuff. So it’s great to finally have the opportunity to get out and do all these shows. The reaction to the album has been really good and I think it will sound great live. We’re all planning to have a lot of fun on this tour!”

BRITISH LION‘s debut album sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“British Lion” was released in the U.S. on September 25, 2012 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). Mixed by Kevin Shirley — whose credits include IRON MAIDEN as well as Led ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY and RUSH, among many others — the CD, which features Harris alongside vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists Graham Leslie and David Hawkins and drummer Simon Dawson, presents a different side of the bassist’s musical visions.

“British Lion” comprises ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on between IRON MAIDEN tours and releases and is described by Harris as “’70s-influenced, British-sounding hard rock.” “I’d say it’s more mainstream rock than metal… and quite commercial… but good commercial,” he said. “There’s all kinds of stuff going on, with nods to THE WHO and UFO and some classic British rock bands, but it’s not the progressive rock album some might be expecting.”
