WINTERSUN Begins Mixing ‘Time II’ Album

Finnish epic metallers WINTERSUN have issued the following update:

“After some festival and summer show announcements, we thought we might also give you a heads up regarding [the next WINTERSUN album] ‘Time II’.

“2012 was a really great year for us, the release of ‘Time I’ was a huge success and we did two successful tours and many sold-out shows. But we are aiming even higher and take WINTERSUN to the next level in 2013!

“We have three official webstores up and running (Europe, Finland, North America) and we hope you guys like the available items. There’ll be constant updates and new products and we will also have interesting competitions and specials coming up on our pages, so be sure to check it all out.

“We are starting the mix of ‘Time II’ and it will be released early 2014. The album will continue where ‘Time I’ left, but it will be an upgrade in production; it will be equally epic, if not more. It will contain some ‘fast stuff’ and some guitar shredding (including seven solos), like some of you metalheads and guitar wankers have been wishing for. It will also contain some of the most beautiful music ever written that will bring a tear to your eye.

“We are playing some huge summer festivals in Finland and in Europe (including Tuska, Nummirock, Metalfest, Beastival, Hellfest) and for the first time going to Spain. We are also taking part in Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy) in March for the nomination of ‘Metal Album Of The Year’. We know it’s going to be an exciting year. It is because all of you who have supported us during the years we have been able to grow and continue to do what we love.

“Thank you for all the support!

“Stay tuned for some further exciting live news soon! We hope to see all of you on the road and during the festival season 2013!”

Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy equivalent) will be held on March 1 at Barona Areena in Espoo, Finland. WINTERSUN‘s “Time I” will be going up against MOKOMA (“180 Astetta”), NIGHTWISH (“Imaginaerum”), TERVEET KÄDET (“Musta Hetki”), and STAM1NA (“Nocebo”).

“Time I” sold nearly 4,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States to land at position No. 109 on The Billboard 200 chart.

WINTERSUN recently headlined this year’s edition of the Heidenfest tour. Support on the trek came from KORPIKLAANI, VARG, TROLLFEST and KRAMPUS.

PSYCHOTHERMIA New Album Streaming on Metal Insider – Tour Dates Announced

Fall to the Rising Sun Available Tomorrow

Southern California’s PSYCHOTHERMIA are set to unleash their debut album Fall to the Rising Sun tomorrow. The album can be ordered HERE. In celebration of the album’s release,PSYCHOTHERMIA has teamed up with Metal Insider for an exclusive stream ofPSYCHOTHERMIA‘s entire debut album. Get a first listen to Fall to the Rising Sun HERE.

In support of the new album PSYCHOTHERMIA will be hitting the road this March. Their tour kicks off March 8th in Phoenix, AZ and is currently slated to run through 3/22 in Albuquerque, NM. The band will also be appearing at this year’s SXSW Music Festival on 3/16.

No strangers to persistence and long hours in the studio, the guys in PSYCHOTHERMIA know what it means to take matters into their own hands. Fall To The Rising Sun was self-produced and recorded in the band’s home studio (Control Volume Studios) as well as engineered by the band members themselves. With the exception of ‘Anarchy’, which was mixed by the notorious Fred Archambault (producer/engineer, Avenged Sevenfold), all the songs were mixed by guitarist Jon Russo. “I’d wake up after 15 hours in the studio, with my ears hurting, and have to go in and do it again… all while working around my jobs,” says Jon. One cannot question their dedication.

Prior to April, 2012, all four members performed together in a previous group (Canobliss). Together in this group they achieved such accolades as three nominations for San Diego Music Awards; opening performances for legends Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, HellYeah, Biohazard, & more; as well as song placements on nearly 10 extreme sports and motorsports DVDs. They have already toured across much of the United States; with a fresh project and new album Fall To The Rising Sun in their hands, PSYCHOTHERMIA is ready to catch the wind. The fire is real…

Check out the new Lordi Album Cover and tracklist…

Via: http://www.lordi.fi/

This is  the album cover of To Beast Or Not To Beast.
Lordi-To-Beast-Or-Not-To-Beast-cover-small

Mr. Lordi, who designs the cover and all the visual artwork of Lordi comments on the cover: “The album cover painting is actually a part of a larger picture. The original artwork had this vintage- styled lady holding a horned skull, which, however, was not the main point of the art piece. There was something not quite right with the setting, so I made experiments with various versions and frames. Album title was Upgradead at that point in time, and the painting was done with that title in mind.”

He goes on: “But now, with a changed concept of the artwork, the title did not seem to fit anymore. We did not consider it an A-class name either. Our guitarist Amen came up with the final title, which we felt suitable and perfect both for the cover artwork and the album.”

The first single of the album “The Riff” will be released on February 8th 2013.

The album track list is:

We’re Not Bad For The Kids (We’re Worse)
I Luv Ugly
The Riff
Something Wicked This Way Comes
I’m The Best
Horrifiction
Happy New Fear
Schizo Doll
Candy For The Cannibal

Bourbon Boys ‘Shotguns, Trucks and Cattle’ CD Review

Bourbon Boys

Shotguns, Trucks and Cattle CD Review

By: TJ Fowler

Release Date February 2013

Recently, I photographed a Sabaton concert in Oulu, Finland that had the Swedish Industrial Metal band Raubtier performing as one of the opening acts.  As per usual, after I finished editing my photos, submitting them to websites and getting them posted.   I contacted Raubtier to inform them that their photos had been posted and gave them the information to check them out.

My success rate at being contacted back from bands has been a bit spotty as bands and their management can be busy, don’t care about the photos or just have better things to do than email back a unknown photographer.  Well, as it turns out I did hear back from the management from Raubtier telling me they will check out the photos and add me to a mailing list for any upcoming releases.

So, it was from this mailing list I recently got an email from Despotz Records informing me of a band named Bourbon Boys from Sweden who will be releasing their debut Southern/Country Rock album in February.  The email also included a link where I could listen to the entire album and also gave me an opportunity to review the album.

Being from Tennessee and living outside of Nashville, the home of country music, I was interested in hearing what a Country/Rockabilly band from Sweden would sound like compared to what passes for country today coming out of Nashville.  What I found was a nice little surprise and an overall fun, enjoyable album to listen to.

The album ‘Shotguns, Trucks and Cattle’ is first and foremost an album to drink to with mostly fast and catchy songs with some tongue cheek humor to boot.  The first thing someone will notice here are the vocals.  I think what will make or break someone enjoying this album will be the singers style.  Hulkoff has a very gruff style of singing and he does have a southern sound to his voice which at times does sound as if he may be trying a bit TOO hard to sound like a country singer.  For me, it didn’t matter that much.  I found the songs quiet entertaining and fun to listen to for the most part with only a few songs that didn’t really grab my attention.  Also, compared to what comes out of Nashville these days that is supposed to be country music, this band does a better job at playing country than Nashville based bands do.

If you know the criteria for the subject matter of country songs you will find them here. The songs subject matter on the album centers primarily about drinking, women (losing them and trying to get them) and hunting.  Some of the songs are a bit cliché’ in some areas, including the song the band picks for their single ‘Hillbilly Heart’ which is a good, slow to mid paced tune.  However, being from Tennessee I can’t recall from the top of my head that many country songs from the past or current that ever use the term Hillbilly in their songs or people referring  to themselves as such.  Mostly when I hear anyone referred to as Hillbilly is when someone is making fun of someone from the south or in the mountains somewhere with no running water.  I’m not saying there aren’t songs that use the term but I don’t find it commonplace.  I think part of difference in the lyrics in the songs you see here from a Swedish country band and from a band in Nashville is a bit due to the fact that Sweden is obviously a bit removed from the center of country music and there is going to be a bit of cultural influence as well in the songwriting.

Also, some songs on the album appear to have some good humor elements in them and not meant to be taken very seriously, such as the Bowhunting Song which actually reminded me a bit of the Swedish techno band Rednex with the humorous lyrics.

Most of the songs, as I stated earlier are catchy and tend to be a bit of a faster pace than you would typically find with most country songs, which I actually found to be a positive.  Some of the standout tracks for me were:

Beast of Bourbon

Rattlesnake

Hillbilly Heart

Cormorant Blues

Overall, I think ‘Shotguns, Trucks and Cattle’ is a good, fun debut album from the Bourbon Boys.  As stated earlier, I think the vocals will be the first thing listeners will notice and what will either keep them interested or not followed by some of the lyrics might strike some as too cliché.  But if you are looking for something to pop in your cd player or ipod, have a fun night with some friends and have good time together, this CD will fill that need in Spades.

3.5/5
