Interview with Andrea Casanova, the vocalist of the Spanish Gothic/Rock band, Rainover.
Interview with Marya Mellow, vocals of the Post Alternative rock band, Arsenic Unbirthday.
By Carla Morton
Hi Marya, how are you?
Hi Carla, it’s all fine, thanks!
When was Arsenic Unbirthday formed?
Arsenic Unbirthday was born over ten years ago by two permanent members (Nick and I) and the other two that have joined the band over the years.Emmanuel, the bass player, is a key part of the band for a very long time, while Alessio has joined us only recently, but with a truly innovative contribution. So now I think I can say that in fact the current Arsenic are newly formed, in a sense… in a perfect, electrical and fraternal harmony. But I think that what we are now is the result of everything that comes also from our past.
This year you have released the EP via Epictronic records, ”Ravens and Writing Desk”. Tell me about it.
“Ravens and Writing Desk” contains words, music and arrangements that are so connected through the feelings, thoughts and emotions of each of us. It all started with a sound, a phrase, a vibration… and comes to life through the intimate communication of this strength and fragility. It’s like a long journey into our deepest fears, coming to life to be freed, but also exorcised… This music speaks about us, not the other.
Interview with Andrea Fagiuoli, the bass player of the Italian Rock band, Ravenscry.
By Carla Morton
Hi Andrea, how are you?
Hi, I’m good. Thank you very much for this interview.
Tell me a few words when was Ravenscry formed?
Ravenscry was formed in 2008 by Paul, Simon and me, then Mauro and Giulia joined almost immediately. We wanted to create something unique with her voice and our instruments playin heavy parts.
The last release of the band was in 2014 entitled ”The Attractions Of Opposites”. Tell me about it.
It’s an album who talks about different aspects of live and each one from the opposite point of view. It was recorded in our studio (Ravenstudio), mixed by Roberto Laghi (In Flames) and mastered by Dragan Tanaskovic (In Flames).
Have you got nice reviews about the album?
Actually we only had positive reviews of the album, I think that the worst vote we got was a 7.5 out of 10 or something like this.
Do you have two other releases. Tell me some things about them.
”One Way Out” was our first album, it was released in 2011 and it was the result of many years of work behind the scenes, ”Acoustic Parenthesis of a Dreamstate” is just a gift we wanted to give to our fans, it contains 4 songs in acoustic version taken from our first full length.
What are the influences and what are the lyrical themes?
We have a lot of influences and everyone of us come from a different kind of music, from Fear Factory to electronic music like David Guetta, from classical to pop, nothing is left out.Lyrics are strictly related to the content of the song, we always try to be as much various as we can.
Interview with the Italian singer, Kirayel, about her solo project and the new album. She is also the vocalist of The Way Of Purity.
By Carla Morton
Hello Kirayel, how things are going?
Hi Carla! Really great!
Tell me about you, when did your passion for music start?
I was very young, about 3 years old maybe. My mother saw me dancing to music and sing all the time, so she enrolled me in a children’s choir first and then, at the age of 6, in a piano course. Then the passion has grown little by little untill I understood that it was my way. I’ve always felt music in me, as something natural I was born with.
This year you have released the album ”Diary Of Spaces And Skies”. Tell me about it.
Yes and I’m really proud of it! It’s a little, intense visual and emotional Diary of my life, of the people I met, of the places I saw and all the things I’m still bringing with me in my heart and in my eyes. The title is taken from my photo album; in my mind the music flows just as you live and feel all the picture of your precious moments. Beyond the intimate and intense music, it has a specialfeature, it has been recorded with double binaural technique, this means that two particular and sophisticated head shaped microphones , called for this reason ‘BIG HEADS’ (Ku100 Neumann) have been used , to record in stereo (because every ‘head’ has two microphones in the ear). They can catch the sounds from the ambient and environment the way they are, so you can hear the sounds in the space! It’s a 3D music experience!!! All the things you can hear are just real, nothing is added in post-production, no effects, no voice tuner, just piano and voices with the natural reverb of the ambient. Other artists enjoyed Binaural (Tom Yorke, Pearl Jam, Jolly etc). This is the first Ep recorded with the two heads.
Did you receive good reviews?
Yes, really great reviews!! I’m so glad that my voice , my songs and all the acoustic experimentation are all together so appreciated.
You had an opening show for Mick Moss of Antimatter, how was it?
Ooh!! So great!! I really enjoyed that show! It was really exciting playing my intimate songs with just piano and voice in front of an audience and it was a great experience meeting and playing with Mick Moss! I really love his voice and style!
Are there more shows confirmed?
Soon there will be news!
Beside your solo project, you are the new vocalist of The Way Of Purity…
Yeah, and I’m really glad ! In The Way of Purity I can express what I think about Nature, Human wickedness, hypochrisy and for me, as a vegan, this is really important!
Do you have a message for the people who enjoy your music?
In my music I always put everything I have, every part of my life, strength and weaknesses, and above all my heart. Appreciating my music means sharing my emotions and my world…it means a lot for me and I want to thank all those people who did and who will do.
Thank you Kirayel, all the best!
You too Carla! You’re always welcome!
Jamie Lee Smit, beside being vocalist of the Metal band Azylya, she has her solo band project as Jamie Lee Smit-Rock and she has released her debut album this year via Epictronic record label. I had the occasion to interview Jamie Lee second time, this time about her project.
Interview by Carla Morton
Hello Jamie, nice talking to you again, how are you?
Hello Carla! Thank you to interest you in my other project. I’m fine and I have a lot of work because we are composing the second album of Azylya and I have to promote, at the same time, my solo album.
Beside Azylya, you have your solo project. What can you tell me about that?
The label Epictronic asked me to make a solo album in my mother tongue, French. Of course, I accepted this great proposal. Riccardo Daga, who is my producer, made all compositions and I wrote the lyrics. It’s a rock album with songs in French and others in English. The music is very energetic and rhythmic. The lyrics are darker in general. The songs deal with different topics: thwarted love, loneliness of the soldier, the suffering of animals, rock stars died very young … The album was recorded at Studio Titan Labs in Ferrara in Italy in August of last year and the album was released March 30, 2015.
