Sarpedon Debut Lyric Video For ”Creeping Chaos”

SARPEDON released the debut lyric video for the song ”Creeping Chaos” taken from the upcoming new album ‘Before The Nightingale Sings”.

On the lyric video, drummer Carl Engstrøm stated: “We’re happy to release the first lyric video for the song “Creeping Chaos”. This is one of the best tracks we decided to go on for a lyric video”.

Keyboard player Daniel Hemstad also stated: “We are finally releasing our first music video and single from the upcoming album “Before The Nightingale Sings”. This is one of my favorite tracks from the album and one of the songs I could express myself most creative with. It got 70’s-inspired Mellotron and Moog, and horror-inspired strings and choirs combined with heavy guitars, groovy bass and hard-hitting drums in true Sarpedon-style.

Progressive metal act Sarpedon announce new album

Progressive metal act SARPEDON announces the release of their second new album “Before The Nightingale Sings”,  a follow up of the 2014 debut “Anomic Nation”.

Drummer Carl Engstrøm stated: “We’re very happy to announce the release of our second album “Before The Nightingale Sings”. It has been a long and difficult process to get this album finished but finally the day has come for its release and we could not be happier and proud about the result”.

Vocalist Göran Nyström stated: “In May 2016 I was contacted by Torgeir (ex guitar player) regarding vocals on the new Sarpedon album. I listened to their previous album and made a rough demo of the song “Anomic Nation”. It worked for both me and the band and in November 2016 I flew to Oslo to record vocals for the new album. The studio was located a couple of miles outside of Oslo and it had some pretty good gear. It was three hectic days in the studio with frozen pizza and singing. It’s the heaviest album I’ve ever recorded and I can’t wait for you to listen to it!”

The album was recorded at Toproom and Hemstad studios, mixed by Børge Finstadand Matias Aaveren at Toproom studios and mastered by Kjetil Ottersen at Vektor Facilities studios. The album cover was done by the French designer Paul “Paulusk” Gonzalvez.

Interview: Talvienkeli

Below is an interview I had with Laetitia Bertrand (bass player), Camille Borrelly (vocals) and Pierre Cordier (keys) about the French metal band Talvienkeli, where they are talking about the band’s new album entitled as ‘’Hybris’’ and other stuffs about the band.

Hi guys, thank you for taking time to answer the questions of this interview. First of all, introduce Talvienkeli.
Hi Carla! Nice to meet you. Talvienkeli is a french symphonic metal band from Lyon. It was created in 2012 and is now composed of 5 members. We released one EP in 2014 and our first album “Hybris” in 2017 in collaboration with the label WormHoleDeath.

Before releasing a full-lenght album, the band had a frontman and later Camille have joined the band as the new frontwoman. How have been these vocals changes for Talvienkeli?
Actually, Camille was here since the beginning. The frontman has joined us later to add some grunts on “Tormented”. We then tried to give him more vocal lines on the other songs. But in the end, our pathways diverged and Sandre had to quit the band. The band decided to build its identity with female vocals.

You debuted with Hybris this year, also yo have signed a deal with the Italian label WormHoleDeath, first, what is this album about?
“Hybris” is a bouquet of songs dealing with different kind of passions which can often lead to madness or deep loss. Each song tells a different story, appart from the 1st and last songs which work together.

Talking a bit about the cover artwork, what this might suggest, making a connection with the album story.
The cover artwork was drawn by our bass player in order to depict this flow of passion streaming out the human brain. It tends to show that a psychological disorder can alter reality. But on the same time, the face of the man drawn on the cover is calm and peaceful because this flow of passion can be full of colours and shades, what is beautiful, don’t you think ?

”Atlas” was the first song online as a preview of the album, what feedback have you gotten both for the song and the whole album from the fans, zines…?
We got really good feedbacks out of this video ! And reviews on many webzines proved to be really enthusiastic and helpful.

Listening to the album, I have made a comparation of Camille’s voice being bit similar as Epica’s Simome Simons, just what my ears conceived, he he!
Ha Ha. Thanks! I remember a rehearsal when Camille started to sing some Epica song’s during a break. It was just amazing, she sounded like Simone!

How do you describe the sound of Talvienkeli?
Talvienkeli wants to keep a heavy sound but softened by more lyrical, symphonical elements that help us evade. We like an organic and warm sound which plays with different atmospheres and rythms. There is a contrast between the amplified parts and the breaks with orchestral sounds, like there is in life with the cutting reality and the one we create in our dreams in order to apease the outside world.

What are your next plans, any tour plans for the summer or maybe any ideas shooting a video for a song?
We are currently planning to make a video clip for one song of the album. We are working hard on rehearsing our songs to improve them and on composing (maybe for another album)… For now, we try to concentrate on finding more concerts where to play.

Hope one day to see you all. Thank you again for this interview. Bonne chance!
