Minneapolis is kind of a boring city if you have no money. After interviewing Metsatöll, I had four hours to kill before Mill City Nights opened its doors for a throng of metalheads. I ended up watching Seinfeld reruns at a crummy pizzeria around the corner until six, at which point I’d had enough and went to stand in line outside the venue. Fortunately, Atso, Metsatöll’s drummer, was having a cigarette. I can’t emphasize enough how awesome each member of Metsatöll is. (Listen to my interview with them here.) We talked about his appreciation for oldschool thrash and death metal. Metalheads were lining up. There seems to be a lot of stoner/doom rock going around right now.  Which I think is generally a good thing.  I can’t say I’m expert of the genre but I know good songs when I hear them and can enjoy a good Doom album when I have to.  I was recently contacted by a band based in Minneapolis, Minnesota called Red Desert that politely asked me to help them out and give them a review of their new album ‘Damned by Fate’.  I’m always up to try and help up and coming bands get some press because the music world is tough out there, hell making a living at anything these days is tough.  So let’s dive in and trek across the Red Desert and see if we really have been ‘Damned by Fate’.
