HELLOWEEN Guitarist Michael Weikath – “The New Lineup Has It’s Advantages And The Old Classic One Had It’s Disadvantages”

Metal-Rules.com’s Marko Syrjala has posted a new interview conducted with HELLOWEEN guitarist Michael Weikath. The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Q: In your opinion, what is the classic lineup of Helloween?

A: “The classic lineup—that’s the one with Michael Kiske and Ingo (Schwichtenberg, drums) and (Kai) Hansen. That’s a time… that’s something that time passed by. Now we’re in the present and that’s what we do to make a good living and whatever. You know, the new lineup has its advantages and the old classic one had its disadvantages. Actually, it wasn’t an easy life. I mean, you hear the complaints about me and what kind of asshole and dictator I was or whatever… and the people who say that, they know themselves that it’s not true if they really reflect. They know what was going on back then and it’s actually just easy to put the blame just on me.”

Q: Yeah, but everybody has their own side of the story.

A: “It could have all been so cool if not for the fucking bikers around and it could have been so cool if I wouldn’t have been around because then I wouldn’t have had to have that entire struggle that was going on. For me what counts is that you have a great act that works and functions and is looked upon by the people as something important or great or something and that is indispensable. Because you can do so many bands which are not really necessary. Then you can go and say hmm or whatever.”

Q: Would I dare to ask that how is your relationship with Roland Grapow on these days?

A: “None.”

AVANTASIA – ‘Sleepwalking’ Video Debuts

Today (March 22nd) the new AVANTASIA single ‘Sleepwalking’ has hit online stores for downloading.

Leader Tobias Sammet and the band have also shot a video clip for the track which was shot in a magical forest in Germany on a snowy winter‘s night. Tobias comments: “It was far below freezing. And there we were, standing in the snow storm for hours, walking through a haunted forest. It felt a bit like Sleepy Hollow meets Brothers Grimm, but the pictures that came out were really great and compensated for the torture.”

AVANTASIA: ‘Sleepwalking’ Single Due This Week

On March 22, the single “Sleepwalking” from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet‘s AVANTASIA project will be available as a digital download, featuring a duet between Tobias and female vocalist Cloudy Yang.

“Sleepwalking” comes off AVANTASIA‘s new album, “The Mystery Of Time”, which will be released on March 30. The effort will be made available as a regular CD, limited-edition vinyl and limited-edition hardcover book with a 28-page booklet containing ten regular songs and two bonus tracks (“The Cross And You”, “Death Is Just A Feeling”). The cover artwork was hand-painted by world acclaimed British fantasy artist Rodney Matthews. Among Rodney‘s most famous artworks are not only album covers for rock legends such as MAGNUM, THIN LIZZY, ASIA and NAZARETH, he has also designed the characters for the TV series “Lavender Castle” and created the covers for novels by British fantasy author Michael Moorcock and many more.

“The Mystery Of Time” will feature guest appearances by Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), Michael Kiske (UNISONIC, HELLOWEEN), SAXON frontman Biff Byford, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, drummer Russell Gilbrook of URIAH HEEP, AYREON mastermind Arjen Lucassen (also ex-BODINE, VENGEANCE), Ronnie Atkins of Danish hard rock veterans PRETTY MAIDS and MR. BIG frontman Eric Martin.

The new AVANTASIA CD was recorded in part at VOX Klangstudio in Bendestorf, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth (KAMELOT, EDGUY, EPICA, RHAPSODY).

“The Mystery Of Time” track listing:

01. Spectres
02. The Watchmakers’ Dream
03. Black Orchid
04. Where Clock Hands Freeze
05. Sleepwalking
06. Savior In The Clockwork
07. Invoke The Machine
08. What’s Left Of Me
09. Dweller In A Dream
10. The Great Mystery

Immediately after the release of “The Mystery Of Time”, a metal opera based on a story written by Sammet, the band will embark on a full-fledged indoor tour, during which the band and special guests will bring the epic undertaking to the stage.

Since the performances will embrace all the different eras and history of AVANTASIA, these shows will feature an extended playing time and the entire evening will be dedicated to AVANTASIA with no support acts.

Tobias originally wanted to put AVANTASIA to rest after the release of the “The Flying Opera – Around The World In 20 Days” concert DVD in April 2011, but he has since had a change of heart.
