According to THR, UNDERWORLD’s Kate Beckinsale is in negotiations to star in ELIZA GRAVES, a psychological thriller from Nu Image/Millennium. Brad Anderson (SESSION 9, THE CALL) will direct the film which is loosely based on a short story of Edgar Allan Poe’s called “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether” and will be adapted by Joseph Gangemi.
Beckinsale will play the lead character of Eliza, a Harvard Medical School grad who takes a job at an insane asylum, falling for one of the doctors but then discovering that the occupants have taken it over. Sounds like a pretty solid set-up for a horror film and with the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale as its leading lady I’d say this one is off to a pretty good start.
Shooting is expected to begin this June with Oren Peli (PARANORMAL ACTIVITY) serving as one of the producers.
We’ve known for a while that there has been interest in exploring a sequel to SINISTER but there hasn’t been any official word, until now. Deadline is reporting that Blumhouse Productions is officially moving forward with the sequel to Scott Derrickson’s box-office hit SINISTER.
While everything is still in the early stages it is said that Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will return to co-write the story. No word on whether or not Derrickson will return to direct but right now it looks like he’s going to at least stick around as producer.
SINISTER was made on a $3 million budget and has since earned over $77 million at the box office so this shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise that they decided to move forward with a sequel.
Not sure how I feel about this. The original film was legitimately creepy and offered some refreshing scares so I have a hard time seeing the sequel being able to repeat that – as many never come close. I’d much rather see Derrickson and Cargill put their heads together for another original idea, but who knows, maybe this sequel will break the mold and offer a rare second installment that can be just as good as the original.
Cross your fingers!
While James Wan’s upcoming sequel to INSIDIOUS is still filming we’ve got a small bit of news to share regarding its release. Originally it was planned for an August 30th release but now has been moved ever so slightly to September 20th. It’s not a huge move like we saw CARRIE get when it was pushed a discouraging 7 months away from its original date.
Many of the original cast members have returned, including Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey, and Ty Simpkins. The gorgeous Jocelin Donahue (THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL) has joined the project and is playing a young version of Lorraine Lambert.
Nothing here to worry about, just looks like a case of placing the film in a better competeing slot as it looks like the only other movies it will have to go against that week will be Hugh Jackman’s PRISONERS and Chris Hemsworth’s RUSH.
