Music Review: Crazy Lixx Album: Ruff Justice

In today’s world there are so many ways of discovering new bands and metal without having to rely on the opinions of a major media outlet, i.e. MTV.  Now with everything so interconnected with the internet and technology a person can seek out, and in my case, get lucky and stumble upon cool bands by pure accident while enjoying a cool new video game.

The band I speak of is Crazy Lixx. A glam/hard rock outfit coming out of Sweden that if a person didn’t know better, would think they were a band that literally came out of the 80’s since they re-create that Sunset Strip glam rock sound so well.  The video game I speak of is the new Friday the 13th The Game which was recently released by Gun Media.  Both Crazy Lixx and Gun Media paired up to make some music to be included in the game that can be heard when camp counselors turn on radios to distract or trick Jason, before they get their head chopped off.  The main song the band contributed to the game is ‘XIII’ which is fantastic and really captures the feel for the game and the movies it was based on.  In fact if you have seen Friday the 13th: Jason Lives and heard Alice Cooper’s ‘He’s Back, the Man Behind the Mask’ Then you will know kind of what to expect from this song.  There are also two other songs included on Ruff Justice that are based around the F13 theme, these are ‘Killer’ and ‘Live Before I Die’.  Both of which are excellent songs.  ‘XIII’ and ‘Live Before I Die’ are more fast paced songs while ‘Killer’ is more slow tempo. Bands: Shiraz Lane, Lost Society and Santa Cruz

Tuska.  The Finnish word for PAIN.  Tuska…THE biggest Finnish festival for metal acts from around the globe whose only mission is to bring to the metal masses pure heavy metal over three days.  Rain or Shine.  However, metal never sleeps and before the Tuska beast awoke, the day before the festival some of Finland’s most prominent up and coming bands took the stage at the Tavastia Club in the center of Helsinki.  Shiraz Lane, Lost Society and Santa Cruz took the stage to whip the crowd into a frenzy and help set the stage for a glorious weekend of heavy metal. Music Review Ted Poley CD: Beyond The Fade

By: Callum (CJ) Lavender
Label: Frontiers Records
Available: 13th May 2016
This discussion is coming a bit later than expected, but I am a big fan of Ted Poley and really wanted to check the new release out. Some of Ted poley’s most notable music achievements are being the vocalist for the famous AOR band Danger Danger, several solo albums, and working with video game composer Jun Senoue, on theme songs for some of the sonic the hedgehog video games. Being a big fan of the sonic the hedgehog franchise, guess where I first discovered Ted Poley from. On this album Ted is also joined by Frontiers veteran Alessandro Del Vecchio, who has worked with more bands and singers that I care to mention. One of his most notable works is working with Johnny Gioeli revamping Hardline since 2012. I was fortunate to see Danger Danger performing of the same stage as Brother Firetribe at the last ever fire fest in 2014.

CONCERT REVIEW: Reckless Love; Seinäjoki, Finland 2016

Report and Photos by: Samuli Keskitalo

After finishing their biggest and most successful European tour so far, Reckless Love are making a little tour in their homeland, which continued with the theme of the new album. ”The merry metallers” from Kuopio, Finland released their fourth full-length album (InVader) in early spring this year. The band’s drummer Hessu Maxx said before the album was released that InVader is the band’s boldest and most versatile album so far. And it seems like this particular record has also received good positive feedback in the media. I have spent much time with Reckless Love’s material before the show in Seinäjoki, and overall the new album may even be better than their  album Spirit from 2013. It is a very good and integrated rock album with only a couple of filler songs. Luckily the biggest part of the setlist that night was piled up with the songs from the InVader album – so let’s go for the blasting rock’n’roll night!
