Drone Metal, I’ve found, can be pretty hit or miss. Ok, mostly miss, consisting of tracks that leave my mind numb, but at least cure my insomnia. Two things, however, made me want to give Skinwalker a shot. First, they’re in Chattanooga, TN, a city I’ve spent considerable time in (mostly involving gorging myself at Sticky Fingers). Second, band member Austen Mason described the album as “Drone/doom… devoted to multidimensional creatures with EVP’s hidden in songs.” Sounds very much like other the soundtrack to a Lovecraft story, maybe The Whisperer in the Darkness. Video: PHILIP ANSELMO Sings With WARBEAST In Tennessee – Feb. 6, 2013

Fan-filmed video footage of DOWN/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo joining WARBEAST on stage on February 1 at Track 29 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to perform a song can be seen below.

“War Of The Gargantuas”, the new split album featuring Anselmo and WARBEAST, was released on January 8 via Philip‘s Housecore Records. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by Anselmo during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy.

“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers WARBEAST,” Anselmo stated about “War Of The Gargantuas”. “The title of the split is ‘War Of The Gargantuas’ and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the ’60s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our ‘gargantuan’ personalities. Both WARBEAST and myself have full-length LPs that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ’till we both release our full-length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”

“These two songs we have on ‘War Of The Gargantuas’ were the next level after [debut album] ‘Krush The Enemy’,” WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby comments. “They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.”

WARBEAST‘s second full-length album, “Destroy”, will be released on April 2 via Housecore Records.
