I happened to notice that Blind Guardian had an EP out; Twilight of the Gods. This is really the release of their first single from their upcoming album, as well as two live tracks from Wacken 2011. My first exposure to Blind Guardian came when a friend gave me the album Imaginations From the Other Side and was blown away. However, I found myself underwhelmed by earlier works. When I cranked up the EP, and then the full album, I was immediately struck by how Beyond the Red Mirror seemed to have caught the magic of Imaginations. So, metal bands’ doing the orchestra thing is a thing now right?  We have Avantasia doing it, we have Manowar who has done it (of course Manowar do a lot of things) and now we have members of RAGE doing it with Lingua Mortis Orchestra.  I have always found that the metal bands using the 100 piece orchestras seem to be doing such things to try and ‘prove’ how legitimate they are to others outside of the metal community and that they are really a sophisticated band and deserve respect damn it!  In other words sometimes I feel they are trying to over compensate for something and this all seemed to have started with when Metallica did the S&M thing…and well my hatred for Metallica needs to be saved for another time.  So how does Lingua Mortis Orchestra measure up?  Do we have some legitimate music here that deserves to be heard or do we have, what I feel a lot of these orchestral affairs contain, a lot of pomp and ego stroking?   Well, maybe a little of both…let’s dissect this cadaver and see what it’s made of shall we!!! BLIND GUARDIAN – Imaginations Through The Looking Glass DVD Goes Gold In Germany; Video Of Ceremony Available

BLIND GUARDIAN’s full-length DVD, Imaginations Through The Looking Glass, has gone gold in Germany. “Thanks to the more than 25,000 German fans who purchased the DVD and made this achievement possible,” the band react.

A video of the gold album ceremony and a short interview with Hansi (in German only) can be seen here.

According to Wikipedia, Blind Guardian had intended to record a DVD since early 1998, however, due to the band’s high requirements, no existing metal festival had been considered suitable. Instead, the band decided to create their own festival, back in their homeland. The First Blind Guardian Festival was held in Coburg, Germany, at June 16–17, 2003. It lasted 2 days, with the band playing during both nights. The entire show has been professionally recorded and subsequently released on a DVD entitled Imaginations through the Looking Glass on June 14, 2004.

Gamma Ray release details of upcoming new album, ‘Master of Confusion’

We are happy to announce the release of GAMMA RAY (Official) “Master Of Confusion” on March 15th, 2013!

‘Master Of Confusion’ and ‘Empire Of The Undead’ are the first two new studio songs by Gamma Ray to be released after the successful studio album “To The Metal!”

With its 60 minutes of pure and raw Gamma Ray, “Master Of Confusion” is a great way to wait for the new album, scheduled for the end of 2013.

In addition to the brand new studio song, “Master Of Confusion” features a second new studio track: ‘Empire Of The Undead’, showing the heavier side of the band, with an explosion of energy and pure Gamma Ray sound at its best.
The release is not free from tasty rarities: a brand new studio cover versions of British Glam Rock band Sweet (‘Lost Angels’ – “the reason I have joined a band many years ago”, stated Hansen) and a hidden treasure of NWOBHM (‘Death Or Glory’ by Holocaust).
