Evil Dead sequel news: Original series and remake sequel rumors out of SXSW

It should come as no surpise that there is already talks of a sequel to the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of EVIL DEAD, especially when you consider the overwhelmingly positive response the film received at this weekends SXSW premiere of the gore-laden flick. Couple that with the guaranteed box office bank the film will undoubtably rake in, it’s pretty much a no-brainer that the studio would demand a sequel.

During a QandA session following EVIL DEAD’s SXSW screening, Alvarez addressed the crowd stating that he has already begun work on a screenplay for a sequel, demonstrating the producers and the studios faith that they have a hit on their hands. While it hasn’t been set in stone as of yet, this is as close to an “official” announcement on the sequel as we can expect until the TriStar/Film District remake hits theaters on April 5.

Switching gears to other EVIL DEAD releated goodness, Ghost House Pictures producing partner Rob Tapert clarified earlier reports on the EVIL DEAD 4 rumors that have been running rampant on the internet, stating that the producers (and series creator/director Sam Raimi) were never talking about doing an Evil Dead 4 but actually doing a direct sequel to ARMY OF DARKNESS. In his own words:

“That would be Army of Darkness 2. Everybody calls it Evil Dead 4 but Army of Darkness wasn’t called Evil Dead anywhere except by the fans.”

Except that isn’t entirely true. The films original working title was EVIL DEAD 3 and the flick has been released in several territories under that title. But hey, we’ll just go with what the man says. EVIL DEAD 4. ARMY OF DARKNESS 2. I don’t care what they call it, just as long as they make it happen!

We’ll keep you updated on the status of both films as we hear it.

Extra Tidbit: Which sequel are you most looking forward to?

Sam Raimi to open the book of the dead once again with plans to write Evil Dead 4 this summer

Since the announcement of the remake for EVIL DEAD people have been wondering when we would see — if ever — an EVIL DEAD 4 from Sam Raimi. Well, Here’s a bit of mouth-watering news for you guys. Sam Raimi has just dropped a nugget of horror gold during some press rounds in London for his upcoming OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.

I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer.
It’s only two short sentences but my god do they carry a lot of weight. You had to know after producing the remake that it would get Raimi itching to revisit that world himself and bring us the long awaited EVIL DEAD 4. Obviously, this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s happening and it could still be a LONG while before we hear anything on this in the future but it’s certainly enough to get excited about.

Lace up your boots. Horrible things are on the horizon!

Power Behind The Throne was recorded with producer Søren Jensen at Six String Studios (ILLNATH, IRON FIRE) in the winter of 2011, but due to some difficulties the album was delayed and now it finally see’s it release in 2013. The artwork was created by Kakak Lung Art (ALL SHALL PERISH, AS I LAY DYING, SUICIDE SILENCE, CARNIFEX).

Singer and the rhythm guitarist Søren Crawack made the following statement about the release, signing and artwork:
“It’s an incredible relief to finally be able to release this album. After the excruciating delays we’ve had, it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with some very talented people, who made this last sprint towards the release a smooth trip. Everyone from management to record label have just been fantastic. We consider us very fortunate to be signed unto HPGD Productions, who clearly made the most sincere offer of all who was interested in signing us, so it was pretty much a no-brainer. Also we managed to track down this guy Kakak Lung, an incredible artist from Indonesia, who delivered an amazing piece of artwork for the cover. Combining all of the above ingredients with the songs we recorded a year ago, I believe we have one hell of a potent record, that we definitely can’t wait to unleash.“

Label owner Mike Juliano made the following statement about the release: “We are honored to have Impalers join the Horror Pain Gore Death roster. This album is sure to be a favorite and early candidate for album of the year. Thrash til death! “
