Nikki Blakk of the San Francisco, California radio station 107.7 The Bone and AXS TV conducted an interview with Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) at this year’s NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that took place January 24-27 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s long-talked-about “Unblackened” DVD, which was previously scheduled to be filmed in late August at The Mayan in Los Angeles, California, and was then pushed back to January, will now be shot on Wednesday, March 6 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles at 8:00 p.m. The set is expected to contain intimate versions of some of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s most popular songs, as well as songs from mainman Zakk Wylde‘s solo album “Book Of Shadows” and his Southern rock band PRIDE & GLORY. The show will feature Wylde on guitar and piano, alongside the members of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, as well as a four-piece string section, pedal steel, and special guests. The concert will be broadcast live exclusively on AXS TV. A CD/DVD will be released later this year.

“This is something we haven’t done yet, and we wanted to give our fans something new,” said Wylde. “You can take a song that you’ve played thousands of times and rearrange it, and all of a sudden it’s something totally fresh. The attitude of the songs doesn’t change when we play them acoustically — the tunes are gritty regardless.”

“We’re gonna do the whole thing with a four-piece string section, a pedal steel guy, and I’m gonna have some of my musician buddies sit in on some of the songs and stuff like that,” Wylde said a few months ago. “We’re gonna have two solid weeks of rehearsal and then we’re gonna knock this thing out. [It will be an] acoustic/electric type of thing. Kinda like how the Christmas record is or like how we did ‘The Song Remains Not The Same’ where you’ve got an acoustic and then you can put a rippin’ solo something. So I’ll still have the Marshalls going with the acoustic stuff. It’d be almost kinda like if PINK FLOYD was doing an unplugged thing and they did ‘Comfortably Numb’ but Dave [Gilmour] will be sitting down but he’ll still rip that solo out. It’ll still be electric and then we’ll have the string section behind it and the whole band and it’ll be killer.”

Tickets for the “Unblackened” filming are on sale from GoldenVoice.com.

Movie Review: The Possession

Movie Review: The Possession

By: TJ Fowler

Movies based off “real events” or actual things sometimes can be sketchy in terms of how truthful the story you see on screen is, i.e. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  The Possession is a movie which is not based on an actual story as it’s more based on the legend of a dybbuk box, an old Jewish Wine box which has a demon imprisoned within.  I’m a paranormal buff so I am familiar with the item the movie is based off of and there is such an item that is floating around out there with stories attached to really make you wonder about such an item.  So how does The Possession translate this urban legend to the big screen?  Do we get some Old Testament vengeance delivered or do we get a big empty wooden box with the Yiddish word, “Schmendrick” engraved on it?  Read on! Dave Mustaine of Megadeth unveil details on his own record label and new album ‘Super Collider’

METAL GODS MEGADETH NEW ALBUM ‘SUPER COLLIDER’ SET FOR RELEASE JUNE 2013

Dave Mustaine brings legendary thrash-metal pioneers to his own label with Universal for first time, uniting with his multi-platinum Capitol/EMI catalog

With worldwide sales of more than 30 million, and a seat at the top of the headbanging pantheon. Megadeth is a force -Billboard

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12, 2013 -For a heavy metal band that’s been around for nearly three decades, selling more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy® nominations, scoring five consecutive platinum albums-including 1992’s two-million-selling Countdown to Extinction -Megadeth’s founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine feels the best is yet to come, especially after signing an exclusive worldwide deal with Universal Music Enterprises.

Currently working in their studio in San Diego on their 14th studio album titled Super Collider, Mustaine, along with bassist Dave Ellefson, drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, are looking forward to its release in June 2013

Megadeth’s Super Collider is the first release through Mustaine’s new label, Tradecraft, through UMe.

“It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal,” said Mustaine during a break in the sessions. “It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from the Universal label. Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Uni will bring for us all. We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, Super Collider. If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.”

With a newfound energy with the band, Mustaine is raring to go, preparing for his latest tour, marking the 20th anniversary of their best-selling Countdown to Extinction album. Mustaine added, “Shawn, Chris and David have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now!”

“Megadeth is not just one of the most successful metal bands, but one of the most influential rock bands of the past 30 years,” said UMe President/CEO Bruce Resnikoff in making the announcement. “They continue to be a huge draw on the road with their longtime fans as well as continually adding new fans. I look forward to working together with them.”

Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles in 1983, and with a string of five consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums Megadeth became one of the biggest bands of the mid-’80s and ’90s, boasting such arena anthems as “Symphony of Destruction,” “Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying,” “Holy Wars,” and “Sweating Bullets,” along with the top singles in 1997/98 off Cryptic Writings, “Trust,” (No. 1 track) “Almost Honest,” “Use The Man” and “A Secret Place.”

With the recent acquisition of EMI, UMe now brings together Megadeth’s classic, 14-year, seven-album Capitol catalog, which includes one multi-platinum release (’92’s Countdown to Extinction), four platinum records (’86’s Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?; ’88’s So Far, So Good… So What?; ’90’s Rust in Peace; ’94’s Youthanasia), and one gold (’97’s Cryptic Writings). In all, the band has scored five Top 10 albums (including 2007’s United Abominations and 2009’s Endgame) and two Top 5 releases, with 2011’s TH1RT3EN debuting at No.11 on the Billboard Top 200 and No.1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.

DORO PESCH In New York City: Video Interview, Performance Footage

Phil Fiumano of New York Rocks conducted an interview with German metal queen Doro Pesch when she played at B.B King Blues Club & Grill in New York City on February 4. You can now watch the chat below. Also available is footage of the New York City performance.

Doro was forced to cancel tonight’s (Tuesday, February 12) concert at The Token Lounge in Westland, Michigan due to illness. As per doctor’s orders, Doro is required to rest her voice after suffering from a sinus and throat infection for the last few days.

Doro‘s latest album, “Raise Your Fist”, sold 585 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 65 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

In a recent interview with Lords Of Metal, Doro stated about her expectations for “Raise Your Fist”, Doro said, “I will be very happy when the fans say they love the record; that’s the most important for me. I really don’t keep up with numbers, which are, in my opinion, great to talk about afterwards. It’s nice if we will be able to make the charts again, but to me, those kind of things don’t really matter. Much more important is that the fans dig the songs in a live situation and, since we already played ‘Raise Your Fist’ several times live, the first signs are very positive.”

ROB ZOMBIE – Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor Artwork Revealed

ROB ZOMBIE will release his new studio album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, on April 23rd via his new label, Zodiac Swan, through T-Boy Records/UMe. Check out the album art below. An Amazon pre-order is at the bottom of the story.

“I think for the first time this new album perfectly merges the old days of WHITE ZOMBIE with the future of what I am doing now,” states Rob Zombie. “I think fans of both will agree that this is the perfect combo of both worlds.”

A rock icon and auteur filmmaker with insight and unlimited vision, Rob Zombie has continuously challenged audiences as he stretches the boundaries of music, film, and publishing. Now, the seven-time Grammy-nominated recording artist releases his fifth solo album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, which streets April 23rd, and includes the first single, ‘Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Super Town’, along with such tracks as ‘Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga’, ‘Lucifer Rising’, ‘Behold! The Pretty Filthy Creatures’ and a heavy-duty cover of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD’s ‘We’re An American Band’.”

As a musician, Rob Zombie has sold over 15 million albums worldwide to date. His last studio album was the long-awaited Hellbilly Deluxe 2. The album came a decade after its predecessor, Hellbilly Deluxe, the album that established Zombie as a solo artist after the breakup of multi-platinum group White Zombie. That triple-platinum album also yielded a string of successful radio singles, namely ‘Dragula’, ‘Superbeast’ and ‘Living Dead Girl’, which dominated the airwaves.

The rocker-turned-film director is the only artist to experience unprecedented success in both music and film as the writer/director of five feature films, with a worldwide gross totaling more than $100 million dollars. The week of his album release, Zombie will premiere his sixth motion picture, The Lords Of Salem, that he wrote, directed and produced in tandem with the producers of the Paranormal Activity franchise, on April 26th, with Anchor Bay Films.

Last year, in addition to working on his film, Zombie also dominated the touring world in 2012, blowing away audiences on the road with MEGADETH, then with MARILYN MANSON for the Twins Of Evil Tour. Zombie and his band of maniacs – guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D, and drummer Ginger Fish – brought their elaborate, multi-media production, complete with hair-raising theatrics, animatronic robots, oversized LED screens, a non-stop collage of psychotronic monster film clips, a spectacular light show, a gigantic robot with flames shooting out of its body, pyrotechnics, insane guitar riffs and vicious beats to audiences and festivals around the world.
