Hello, how things are going?
Fabio: I’m finally fine!! Recording and releasing this album has been a hell of a ride for us, but finally we made it. Now it’s time to hit some stages and get on the road again. We are finally ready to go outside and promote our new creature!

When was Burn The Ocean formed?
Fabio: BTO was formed in 2014 as a result of my personal attempt to get back to life 2Novembre, the previous band of Emanuele, Davide and Valentina. The band was amazing, they used to play a powerful and very personal alternative rock. We are from the same hometown (Genova) and as a fan I tried to follow them because I really loved their style. They decided to quit their activity and that was simply unacceptable to me because they were an awesome trio, so I pushed the guys to change their name and start something new. To my surprise they accepted with the only condition of having me in the new band. Playing with them is something I really wanted to do because I spent more than 15 years playing exclusively metal and I really wanted to try something new and different… so here we are.

You have released this year the album under the name of “Come Clean”, tell me about it.
Fabio: ”Come Clean” is our first attempt to create something which really could reflect our musical identity. It’s the result of our first year of activity. The key to understand what we are trying to do here is considering that there are two distinct souls in this band : the first is the heritage from 2Novembre, which is currently 3/4 of the band and the second one is bringing in the game my experience in metal music, so it’s basically all about merging two different point of view into one solid reality. The album was produced by me in my Blackwave studio and that gave us the advantage to take our time to do it and experimenting a lot both sonically and in terms of songwriting. Come Clean was released on November 2 by Sliptrick Records.

 Do you have other releases?
Fabio: Not for Burn The Ocean, but if you want to truly understand where we come from, maybe you should take a listen to our previous bands which are 2Novembre, Nerve and Ritual Of Rebirth.

What are Burn The Ocean’s influences?
Emanuele: It’s hard to say it precisely, on our paths as artists we all came in contact with different bands and genres. For sure, the strongest influence that we share comes from the Northern American westcoast scenes, from Canada to Los Angeles, obviously passing through Seattle. Someone had his baptism with punk rock, someone else with heavy metal, but in the end we’ve all started loving the Pacific music, as it reached our ears. I think we’re all entangled in it, but we try to be very creative and fresh by playing whatever we like and not setting any limits or boundaries to it. That’s why you should not expect a particular genre from Come Clean, it’s simply something representing ourselves, our taste and musical identity in the most transparent way we could.

What about the lyrical themes and who mainly writes the music in the band?
Emanuele: Concerning “who writes what”, our lyrics & music production is quite varied. Each song is currently a world apart. It usually starts by me and Fabio putting out some riffs and trying to imagine the structure of the song, then we go more organic by working on the first “shell” with Davide and Valentina trying to find the right vibe of the song. Then we move to the lyrics trying to fit them on the mood of the instrumental part. Working that way gives the songs a very natural feeling. We try to let our instinct guide us through the whole process and lyrical themes have no restrictions too, we talk about our experiences, emotions or visions … I won’t say more, just to give your readers a good reason to get hold of our digipack.
Fabio: As I was saying before, in this band there are two different cores which relatively speak two distinct languages so we experimented and tried to merge them in different ways… We worked on some stuff which was partially written on 2nd of November.. we broke it down and rearranged the elements with our respective taste. This is for example the case of Land Of Mud, in which my role is to drive the song at the right time and stand in the back and enriching the arrangement on the verse. So it’s me, learning their language and speaking together. That’s basically the process behind the songs which has also been reversed in the case of “The Seed” or the opener “Days In November” which both started from a complete structure created by me and arranged with a different perspective from the other side of the band. We have chosen Bitedown as our first single as this is the song which represents best the final result of our experiments showing a perfect balance between our musical experience and musical point of view.

Are there any shows confirmed?
Fabio: Yes, we are currently booking our first leg of shows which will lead us to play mainly in Italy, but we are planning to book also a couple of selected shows in Europe and maybe a tour… but unfortunately everything it’s on an early stage right now, so you’ll have to wait a couple of months for some official statements.

Do you have other plans with the band?
Fabio: We are currently giving our 100% on the preparation and rehearsals for the live shows, which are really the next step in the chain. We are now trying to reach our public and since this is a completely new band, we know how much impact this fact will have on our future. Meanwhile we are also planning to do a videoclip which will hopefully be realized before the end of the year. Then we will probably record some stuff which wasn’t ready at the time we recorded Come Clean but which is now part of our shows. We expect to be very prolific so keep up to date with us and you won’t regret it.

What is your message for the ones who support Burn The Ocean?
Fabio: My message is a mantra which I used to repeat myself through the years : don’t be stupid, try something new and open your ears to something you don’t expect to like.. that’s the only way to discover something new and live a new experience. Guaranteed!

Thank you for the answers guys, cin cin!
Thank you for your time and dedication Carla, hope to talk to you soon. Cheers!
