Hi Teemu, how are you?
I’m fine thanks, we are training hard for our upcoming gig.

Tell me when Defy The Exile was formed.
Defy the Exile was formed in July 2013. I started to gather players and found our guitarist-singer Tero from a finnish music website Muusikoiden.net (“musicians.net”) and he knew our drummer so we also got him in. Our bassist was our friend so we asked him to join in. At first our music was almost heavy rock but in few years we went much heavier and now it’s about what we want to do.

You have released this year an EP entitled “Death Is Eternal”. Tell me about it.
That’s true. Our first EP, “Death is Eternal” was released 16.6. in bandcamp and it has been listened now almost 600 times. This EP was in fact a big struggle. Because of the circumstances we had to re-record it and change the mixer guy about three times before the final versions of the songs were good enough, but now we are very satisfied for the result. The EP is death metal with lots of melodic stuff and “Torrential Rain” even has clean vocals. The lyrics handle pretty dark themes and prepare people for our next EP that will pure death and agony. 😉 You can find the lyrics from our bandcamp page and the opening track “Forsaken Eden” has a lyric video in youtube, go check it out!

Are you going to release new materials soon?
At the end of the year we will start recording first demos for our next EP and we try to release it next summer. No dates released because that we have noticed that it always leads to fucking up the schedules.

What are the band’s influences?
The biggest influence to whole band, especially for me and Tero, is definitely a finnish underground metal band Nicole. Of course we all have our own influences but the three the most important are Nicole, Ghost Brigade and Lamb of God. Nicole is very dark-themed death metal, LoG has more straight and groovy riffs and Ghost Brigade has inspired more melodic and kind of atmospheric stuff to our music so together they create a great combination that is called Defy the Exile.

Are there any shows confirmed for this year?
Yes, we will play 5.8. at Henry’s Pub, Kuopio(Finland) and propably at Kulttuuriareena 44 in October too, but the date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Do you have a message for the fans?
Go check “Death is Eternal” in bandcamp and like us in facebook, all information, releases and gigs can be seen there.

Thank you Teemu, cheers!
