Ah 36 Crazyfists. I’ve heard the name before but I’ve never heard any of the music until now. Which tells me they must have a stable base for success so far.

The songs I enjoyed and recommend the most are: ‘Lightless’, ‘Also Am I’ and ‘Silvers’.

The things that I liked about the album are the guitar sound. It is clearly raw but not to the point where it’s intolerable but where it’s actually enjoyable. And strangely enough the same can be said about most of the vocals as well. So both these things work very well. The songs are well driven without too much of the gimmicks and there great concepts as well. Everybody faces his or her own time and trauma after all. And the album has a good start and ending.

The things that I didn’t like about the album are that I feel that it is suffering from a bit of an identity crisis. It seems that it can’t decide whether it wants to be a classic metal album or dare I say it: an emo/screamo pop album (I know I’m getting shot for that one). But really I would rather it be a classic metal album for me, so that it can reach the full potential that it can reach. A lot of the songs or rather a lot of parts to the songs are fairly uninteresting to the point where I’m not paying much attention.

So it’s not the best album in the world but it’s not the worst either. If the band does have a stable base for success then safe to say it’s been earned. It does sound like something that can be performed in a garage and then taken out on the road. Speaking of which there playing a show in my town next month… I might consider it.
