My first encounter with Nashville Pussy was in the late 1990’s when I was a Radio DJ for my college radio station in Tennessee when I helped run a metal show.  We received a promo copy and the thing I remember most about the band was the cover of the then two female band members on the front with their big tits and legs spread wide open with two guys eating out their pussy.  I thought, those chicks are hot and I wished I was one of those dudes.  The second thing I noticed was that they weren’t from Nashville but from Georgia.  The third thing I noticed was that the music back then, for me wasn’t very noticeable as they were some kind of southern hard rock band that reminded me of Pantera look-a-likes.

Well the years have rolled by since those late 90’s and I got a promo copy of Nashville Pussy’s newest offering ‘Up the Dosage’.  I thought to myself, well you know let’s give this a shot and see how the band has done over the years.  I have to say I was really impressed with this latest offering from Nashville Pussy.

Nashville Pussy is still a Southern Hard Rock band so you aren’t going to find any fast metal riffs or anything of that nature here.  What you will find are some good, fun drinking songs that you can turn on and have a good time with your friends with.  And yes, Nashville Pussy has the trappings many country music and southern rock bands do.  They talk about drinking, bad times and in this bands case, drugs, which is a bit of a differentiation from other styled bands.  The good thing for Nashville Pussy here is that they make such songs enjoyable and interesting to listen to.  I really like the song ‘Hooray for Cocaine, Hooray for Tennessee’, which is more country than anything else as it is played mostly with a mandolin and very funny.

I also found the vocals of Blaine sounding sometimes very much like Alice Cooper/Commander Cody which I thought was interesting to hear and wonder how he would sound singing some of Cooper’s tunes or Cody’s ‘Hot Rod Lincoln’.

‘Up the Dosage’ is dirty and nasty Southern Rock at its best (worst?).  Most of the songs are nice diversions to listen to and enjoyable and there are a few in there that are clichéd but mostly the album works for what it sets out to do, which is to play some modern day nasty Southern Rock.

3.25/5
