Music lovers in North East Lincolnshire are set for a rocking start to Christmas with the return of the UK’s only official Heavy Metal Carol Service. The UK’s first and only official Heavy Metal Carol Service, A Very Heavy Christmas, is back for the third year at Grimsby Minster.
The Carol Service will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 5:30 PM, and promises to be a gloriously festive ‘alternative’ Christmas celebration.
And for 2013 organisers have promised a feast of music and words that will include appearances from musicians and performers both local and from further afield.
Organiser Simon Cross, Chaplain of Oasis Academy Wintringham said: “We have some fantastic musicians involved this year, including a heavy rock band called METANOIA who are travelling over from Yorkshire for the event. But the first part of the service will be made up of local musicians, who will be performing classic Christmas carols in unfamiliar ways. We’ve a group of heavy metallers who have come together especially for the event, as well as solo appearance from music student Vicky Frost, and a slot from psychedelic local band SEASIDE JOHNSON. We will also have a special appearance from the punk poet EAGLE SPITS, who will be delivering some of his own ‘lessons’. This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves Christmas, but perhaps wants something a bit different from a Carol Service.”
The Very Heavy Christmas Carol Service, which was first held in 2011, is also an opportunity for local Charities who work with the homeless to raise awareness of their work. A collection is taken at the event to raise funds in support of the work of the YMCA and other local agencies who work with people who are without a permanent home. All donations go straight to the charities.
After the Carols, there will be a chance for everyone to enjoy a festive mince pie, and learn more about the work of local homelessness charities.
