As an old school music fan I love to see bands still publishing tapes and LP’s! They’re both a great peace of music history and I surely hope that they never die. Even though technology gets better and better all the time, some things just are meant to last forever. I surely hope that tapes and LP’s will be one of those forever lasting things.

Ancient Crypts has published their latest demo, ‘Devoured by Serpents’, in a tape form. It contains 4 songs of as old school death metal as it gets. Starting with a slow and doomy intro on the track ‘Deep Into The Ancient Crypts’ and suddenly turning into a full blasting and fast death metal takes you back in time to the early years of bands like Morbid Angel, Death, Bolt Thrower and Pestilence. Oh, did I already mention that band is from Chile?

What really stands out of Ancient Crypts’s music is the vocalist Nyarlathotep’s voice, which sounds very close to legendary Martin Van Drunen. Every now and then you could actually think that you’re listening to some early Asphyx or even Hail Of Bullets material. Music is mainly fast paced and very heavy death metal, which nowadays isn’t very rare genre in South America. Their love for slimy and evil old school metal music is honorable and you can hear their enthusiasm on almost every single record that comes from South America.

Four songs on the demo tape are all result of great composing and great taste. Like I mentioned it reminds me of many great death metal bands and of their very best albums. I’d say ‘Devoured By Serpents’ is one of the best things I’ve heard so far in the 2013. I really salute the band for making the tape instead of just an boring internet download album or something. If you love great death metal and enjoy metal from the 80’s and early 90’s, you really should try to get your hands on this one!
