 jokers

Every once in awhile you come across a band that just wants to play old fashioned rock and roll and tries to stick the basics.  With The Jokers that is basically what you will get.  Nothing fancy or a band trying to be a ‘sophisticated’ band for ‘intelligent’ listeners.  This can many times be a recipe for good solid music that can result in a pleasurable listening experience and other times it can result in just a bland time.  So do The Jokers deliver a solid musical offering or is the Joke on you Batman??

The good news here for The Jokers’ ‘Rock & Roll is Alive’ is that for fans of classic 70’s and 80’s styled hard rock you will have an enjoyable listening time.  The album is full of music styled after just plain old rock and roll.  Nothing more and nothing less.   You really can’t go wrong with such a formula either as long as the band know what they are doing.  In this regard The Jokers also come through in spades delivering a solid performance in both musicianship and songwriting.

On the flip side of the coin, while listening to a solid rock and roll album such as ‘Rock and Roll is Alive’ is nice and refreshing, it is also something that listeners will more than likely have heard before or know well.  This isn’t a bad thing but it can also be something that may make some pass over the album in favor of bands that have a more aggressive or metal sound.  So if you are looking for a band that has a more ‘metal’ sound or even the ‘traditional’ metal sound this isn’t the band for you.  The Jokers play classic rock as it would have sounded in the late 70’s or 80’s.  Slick production values but rock and roll.

‘Rock and Roll is Alive’ is a solid offering of good rock and roll music and as long as you know that going in you won’t be disappointed.  Just don’t expect Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.
