The creators of the cult stage hit Evil Dead: The Musical have a new live show in the works… and this time, they’ve set their sights on the granddaddy of modern zombie cinema: George Romero’s original Night of the Living Dead.
The new show, appropriately titled George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead Live, is not a musical itself, but an interactive stage experience in which the zombie action crosses over into the audience. In a particularly cool touch, it’s also designed entirely in black & white – from the set design to the actors’ makeup and wardrobe – to replicate the look of the original 1968 film. Romero himself, along with NOTLD alumni Russell Streiner and John Russo (pictured below), serve as Executive Producers for the play, which is presented by Nictophobia Films (Vs. the Dead, Devil’s Night) and directed by Christopher Bond, who previously wrote and directed Evil Dead: The Musical.

Night of the Living Dead Live opens in Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace on Friday, April 26th, and is slated to run through Sunday, May 19th. George Romero himself will appear for a Q&A session after the May 3rd and May 4th shows. Tickets are going fast, so be sure to visit the show’s official website for info.
